The Manchester City striker Robinho, who has been loaned out to the Brazilian side Santos, visited his new team-mates before their 2-0 win over Oeste that took them top of the state championship.

Robinho arrived in Brazil yesterday to begin a six-month loan spell with Santos in order to help stake his claim for a place in Brazil's 2010 World Cup squad.

"Amid a climate of much happiness and relaxation, the star Robinho made a surprise visit to the King Pele Training Centre this afternoon," Santos said on their website yesterday.

The 26-year-old asked City for the loan move in a bid to improve his chances of making the Brazil squad for this year's World Cup after struggling in England.

Robinho will be officially presented at the club where he started his career tomorrow. The 26-year-old won the Brazilian championship with Santos in 2002 and 2004 before joining Real Madrid, but struggled to adapt to life in England after a £32.5m move to City in 2008.

Neymar scored one goal and provided the other in the 2-0 win in the Paulista (São Paulo state) championship match.
